Healthy skin starts from the inside out and eating a healthy, whole foods diet goes a long way when it comes to healthy skin. Katie has also had several podcast guests on to discuss this topic too. https://wellnessmama.com/podcast/644/ https://wellnessmama.com/podcast/266/

Katie doesn’t make this to sell, but she recommends this brand as a healthier premade option. https://www.amazon.com/jane-iredale-Coverage-Mineral-Cream/dp/B01NAK7C2P/ref=as_li_ss_tl?tag=wellnessmama-20

I know the time you must have spent over the years to kindly pass information to the public. My partner has been searching for chemical free foundations and moisturisers, purely 100% chemically free for sensitive skin with no success. I would truly be gratful if you could advise me

Cocoa butter can make lotions hard. If you used cocoa butter that might be the problem.

The preservatives in the water soluble ingredients (witch hazel and aloe vera gel) are enough to preserve their respective ingredients. Since the other foundation ingredients are oil based as long as it’s stored properly and used with clean hands it shouldn’t need a preservative.

You can use either zinc oxide powder or white cosmetic clay. You can use both if desired, but it’s not necessary.

I made it last night and really like the results. I am wondering about using a preservative in this formula? Does the preservative already in the aloe Vera gel work for this purpose or is an additional preservative needed? I see that some others have mentioned this already but I never saw an answer. I’ve heard diy formulas with water and no preservative can go bad in as little as 3 days. Wondering how that applies to this recipe?

Do you have thoughts on how to tweak this for oily skin?

Thank you so much. It’s perfect! Although I did make one tiny little tweak. I used only Mica powder to colour it. I got tired of lumps of cocoa in my foundation and powder.

You are amazing! What a wonderful post! I tried your powder blush and LOVED it!! Really looking forward to trying your other makeup recipes. Was wondering if you might have some advice on measurements for creating different skin tones using the cocoa and mica tints? I’m having a hard time getting close to finding a skin tone that matches.
Thank you, Katie! Keep up the great work!

Mica adds some shimmer but not much color to the skin. You can omit it if you prefer and the foundation would be more matte. I’m not aware of any substitute that does the same thing.

Hi Katie. I’m wanting to make the natural foundation and was wondering if there is a substitute for the mica? Thank you

I did the hard version, though I used the cream version of zinc-oxide, as that’s all the health store I go to has. I added a small amount.

I was thinking the same thing. Or at least a picture of the product or the process.

Hi I see your foundation contains Aloe Vera, Aloe Contains water and as soon as you add water to a product you need to preserve it against microbial growth, If you do not add a preservative you could infect alot of people with skin diseases. Witch Hazel also contains water…. Uhm

I tried this both ways she stated and neither worked. They were both very curdled and separated. Disappointing.
